A memorial to the 200,000 French men, women, and children deported to Nazi concentration camps in WWII.

A corner of the top of the memorial is visible at the near left here.

Here is a view from Pont de L'archevéché. The structure is just visible at the tip of the near island (Ile de la Cité).

This second view is about the same, but a little closer.

These steel teeth are seen first, as one descends into the court.
They guard the only view out, aside from the empty sky above. It is a small glimpse of inaccessable freedom.

Turning away from the teeth, we faced this bleak portal.
