Here's a close-up of the new surface treatment. I got the idea of using fretwire for the divider between colors from my friend Uwe Mirsch (who makes beautiful soapstone fireplaces and other stonework). This fretwire is of a size that would be used on something like an electric bass. It's nickel silver; 18% nickel and 88% silver, in this case. The nickel makes it harder and keeps it from tarnishing.
