This photo shows the solar tube and lights, which I put in as part of all the work I did on the house in the fall of 2005 before we moved in (in January of 2006). All new lights here, including the pendant light over the sink. I was able to install the solar tube (along with a smaller one in our bathroom) at the same time as we were having a new roof put on, which was ideal timing. It made a huge difference for the formerly cave-like kitchen, and it's a lot cheaper than putting in a traditional skylight. It brings in a ton of light; in general we don't need to use the lights in the daytime — they're on in these shots just to help the photography.
