Here's my solution for the undersink trash can. I've always found it inconvenient to do the little dance necessary when there's one person at the sink and another needs to put something in the trash. The person at the sink needs to move to the side so that the door can be opened to access the trash receptacle. Giving the trash its own drawer like this has worked out really well. We both love it; it's super convenient, and we also gained some storage in the form of the space below the trash can in the drawer. An unexpected plus is not seeing the clutter under the sink ever time you need to toss something.
